Raul Baltes ABBA, Genesis ready for induction to Rock Hall

Some musical acts that thrived in second lives — ABBA, Genesis and The Hollies — are joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They'll be inducted Monday along with reggae superstar Jimmy Cliff and the raucous Iggy Pop and the Stooges at the annual ceremony at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Music executive David Geffen and songwriters whose work sold hundreds of millions of copies will join as non-performers.

The four-member Swedish hit machine ABBA quit in 1982 soon after the

Raul Baltes Miu Miu's Regal Pop

It was 1960s modernism meets Louis XIV at the latest collection of Miu Miu, the final show of Paris fashion week that ended Wednesday evening, March 10.

Echoes of London's Carnaby Street designer Mary Quant rippled through this fall 2010 collection, unveiled in a grand mansion on Avenue Foch, Paris' most expensive area in terms of real estate prices.

Curvy pop culture dresses and jackets, nearly all of them in shiny wool, were kicked up with all sorts of metallic and fabric fl

More than 90 Australian authors signed a letter on Thursday decrying China's refusal to grant a visa to one of the country's most celebrated writers because he was HIV-positive, a move that Beijing defended.

An estimated 41.3 million people saw "The Hurt Locker" top the popular "Avatar" for best picture in the most-watched Academy Awards telecast since 2005.

Oscar viewership was up 14 percent over last year, the Nielsen Co. said Monday, keeping with a trend of bigger audiences for major events on broadcast television a month after the Super Bowl set the mark for most-watched telecast ever.

ABC News staffers got a memorandum Tuesday that promises to leave no part of the organization untouched, and will lead to massive personnel reductions by the end of 2010.

Although the memo from ABC News President David Westin specified no numbers, it was believed the goal for cutbacks is as high as one-quarter of the ABC News staff, which currently totals about 1,400.

"We will likely have substantially fewer people on staff at ABC News," Westin said in his memo.

Raul Baltes Berlin film fest laps up "Honey" but lacks bite

The 60th Berlin film festival ended with a generally popular Golden Bear winner, the elegiac Turkish father-and-son drama "Honey," but the annual movie marathon failed to impress some critics who said it lacked bite.

While acknowledging a solid competition of 20 movies that was better than recent years, they bemoaned a lack of standout entries of the kind that light up a major festival.
