What was the most recent thing you learned (training or real-life)?

Every day, training exercises, fires and MVA's occur. So let's talk about it!

What was the last training course you took and was it worth taking?
What was the most recent fire you helped extinguish?
What was the latest MVA you were at?

Take those 3 questions and think about them! Start up a story and explain the situation(s),

The last course I took, was Smoke Divers. Best class I have ever taken. This class should be mandatory for all firefighters. If you ever have any doubts about your abilities, or your capabilities, take this class.

The most recent fire I helped extinguish was a fully involved structure fire. It was a mutual aid call with another department. I was in charge of Tanker shuttle, since we live in a rual area, with no hydrants close.

The last MVA I worked, involved a school bus, and passenger car. The passenger car was completly under the bus, and the victom of the car had to be extricated. After lifting the bus off the car, and extricating the patient, she was taken to the hospital with only a broken nose. There were no other injuries, and only 6 children on the bus at the time of the accident.

I recently took an Ice Rescue course and it was worth it, I learned alot. The last fire was a car fire near 2 sheds, we got it under control right away and limited the damage to the sheds. The last MVA was a car vs. County snow plow (guess who won) we had to cut the driver out and help remove the passenger. (btw they both made it )

The last coures I took was emergency SCBA. It was a great coures.

The last fire i helped extinguish was a plaining mill fire. I was amazed at how well firefighters from different towns worked effectivly with eachother and how much support they were willing to bring in for us.

I took an ITAC Class from Mark Emery, Bat Chief from Woodenville Fire, Washington State. best class I have taken in 15 years.
Put out a Room and Content 3 houses down from my own, nice way to move into the neighborhood.
We did a DUI drill called every 15 minutes at our local high school just before their Prom.

The last course I took was scene support/ has-mat opps. The last fire I helped extinguish was a very large brush pile to close to a barn and cornfield (I was able to be on the nozzle). The last MVA was a minor head on little damage we provided traffic controle.

Update since my last post here. I am finishing FF1 on the 21st and our department responded to a grain dryer fire early this AM.

The most recent thing I learned is that training realy helps when it comes to doing what we need to do. A few months ago I would have stood around waiting for someone to tell me what to do when we got there, but this morning I was able to get right in and do my part without to much thought. I was reminded of a few things but overall the training I have had so far kicked in and I did a pretty good job.

I am not a seasoned firefighter but if there are probies reading this, I can say first hand as a probie, that the training will get you through. Keep it up and you will be amazed when you get back to the station and you realise you just got through the whole incident with out a problem. It is an uplifting feeling.
