What in the hell are these guys thinking? I know it is a different country, but it is still humane life at stake. Wether or not you live in the US, or Mexico, a Firefighter fatality, is a firefighter fatality. Why did these guys not have on the proper PPE? Why did they not deny entry? Why? It all goes back to basics!!!!!!!!

Depending on the tank size I would either let it burn out or apply a foam blanket.

I agree. Why would you even get close to this? I see nothing in the immediate surroundings that is in danger. Keep away from the ends of the tank in case of a BLEVE and let it burn. All fires go out eventually.

The pressure relief valve is operating along with the fusable plug you have to trains on thought here you can begin cooling the vapor side of the tank and extinguish the fire with a dry chem and then plug the fusable link hole on the top near the PRV or you can extinguish the fire around the tank and allow this to burn off but remember that it is burning from the vapor side and will take a long time to off gas the remaining liquid. Shut down the road and let the tank burn off, there is no danger around. I certainly wouldn't lob water at it from 3 blocks away like it looked like. Let the tank burn and try to keep it cool if it safe, when the LP has burned off then put out the truck fire. REMEMBER the first rule of firefighting: LIFE SAFETY

In this case it appears that most of the fire involves ruptured gas piping as well as the safety vent releasing gas vertically. Most of the rest of the truck has been consumed by fire so eventually the gas will either burn off or the tank will cool to the point where the relief valve will close.

If this happened in our hydrant district, I might consider a cooling stream on the tank, preferably teo 2 1/2 inch lines. In our dry areas, evacuate, set up a perimeter and let it burn itself out. Everyone goes home.

I don't know about my company, but I would set up a portable deluge with a fog nozzle to keep the tank cooled and let it burn off. I was the Asst Chief of a BOMARC Missile Site FD for 5 years and our SOPs were if we responded to the launch area and smoke was billowing from a missile shelter, we would set up the deluge and put a water cutain over the shelter and then evacuate the site. One only has to remember the Kingman, Arizona train with a propane tanker that BLEVEd to know there is no safe way to attack this.

What concerns me here is the fire under the tank.. At some point in time it could superheat the gas enough to overcome the bypass valve and BLEVE., So "natural stabilization" could potentially cause a bigger emergency.

Put the fire out around the tank,....cool the tank until it stabilizes........Overhaul.... No biggie

Let the tank heat up........ BLEVE............ and at least a kill camera man and a few first responders........BIGGIE

My point is, They called 911 For a reason, We are supposed to be able to mitigate the emergency into the safest direction.. A potential large scale explosion, Is not that direction.. While it may be "Risky" to put FF's on the lines, It's defiantly the lesser of the two...
